The button that briefly does not work
The close button only appears after three seconds. Short enough not to anger you, long enough to make you read the price. Newsletters, games and streaming services do exactly this.
From the workshop
Switching it on is free. Switching it off costs 499 dollars. Everything you are about to see exists in apps that are probably on your phone right now. Just less exaggerated, which is exactly why it works.
Tap ON. No account needed, and you are never asked for any details, because there is nothing to pay. Open on its own page ↗
The close button only appears after three seconds. Short enough not to anger you, long enough to make you read the price. Newsletters, games and streaming services do exactly this.
Every time you say no, the offer gets cheaper: 499, 299, 99, 9.99. That feels like winning. Meanwhile you are still negotiating over something you never wanted to buy.
An offer expiring in 04:59, and then again in 04:59. The moment a timer restarts, it is not a deadline but a stage prop.
Then the price turns out to be zero. That is the whole joke, and also the point: almost nobody holds out that long. Not something I build for clients, which is precisely why I know how it works.
